Granite Underwriting, a firm which specialises in insurance products for taxi cab and Uber drivers, has said it will create 300 new full or part time jobs in Liverpool as it expands its UK operations.

The company already employs around 850 members of staff but will increase its headcount by more than 35 per cent as it advertises the 300 new roles in Liverpool city centre.

Jobs on offer are thought to include roles within Granite’s underwriting, actuarial, finance, human resources, claims handling and customer service functions.

Some of the positions up for grabs will include vacancies at Acorn, the direct insurance subsidiary of Granite.

The company has its main headquarters at nearby Formby but will now take on hundreds of new staff at its at its Mersey Chambers offices in Liverpool’s Covent Garden.

Granite was founded in 1982 and underwrote more than £220 million in 2017.

Announcing the growth spurt, the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Alan Keating, said: “I am pleased by the rapid pace at which our business continues to grow, underpinned by our ambitious expansion plans. I look forward to welcoming more highly capable people to the team as we continue our exciting growth journey.”

Non-executive chairman at Granite, Steve Ashton, also commented, saying: “I am very pleased to have assumed the role of non-executive chair at Granite and I look forward to working closely with Alan and the team to support the company’s ambitious growth plans.”
