Hammerson, a property development firm, is to create 1,000 full and part time jobs in Leeds with the opening of a new hotel in the centre of the Yorkshire city.

The developers estimate that there will be around 980 temporary jobs created in the construction phase of the project, with a further 50 permanent vacancies at the hotel once it is complete.

The new hotel will be built at the side of Victoria Leeds, a shopping development which is already owned and managed by Hammerson.

To be constructed on almost 18,000 square feet of land, the hotel will feature over 200 rooms spread across 14 floors. The development will also include a bar, restaurant, gym and other facilities.

Announcing the Victoria Leeds’ hotel plans, Hammerson’s director of development and project management for the UK, Robin Dobson, said: “We are pleased to be able to share plans for a new hotel within the Victoria Estate as we continue the roll out of our City Quarters concept in thriving locations around the UK and Ireland.”

“Hammerson has a strong track record of delivery in Leeds City Centre and these plans for a new, contemporary hotel represent the next step in our wider regeneration plans, creating a mixed-use destination where people can live, work and relax, centered around our premium flagship destination, Victoria Leeds,” added Mr Dobson.
