Metro Bank Moves North To Create Dozens Of New Jobs In Yorkshire

Metro Bank is heading north in a move which the company says will create dozens of new jobs in Yorkshire.

Metro Bank has chosen the Yorkshire cities of Sheffield and Bradford for two of its first ventures in the north and says that the move will see around 50 financial vacancies spread across the two cities.

The retail bank, which became the first new high street bank to launch in the United Kingdom for over a century and a half when it was founded in 2010, has so far centred its operations around the South and the Midlands but it now committed to opening more new ‘stores’ in the north.

Before the end of the year, Metro will have new stores in Manchester and Liverpool before it launches in Bradford and Sheffield next year.

Announcing the plans, Metro Bank’s chief executive officer, Craig Donaldson, said: “Bringing the banking revolution to Yorkshire is a real milestone for Metro Bank. We’re thrilled to be arriving in these two cities next year.”

Local councillors in both cities welcome the announcement with Councillor Mazher Iqbal at Sheffield City Council, saying:

“We’re thrilled to be welcoming Metro Bank to Sheffield. These are exciting times for Sheffield with international businesses confirmed for our Heart Of The City II development which mixes the very best retail, residential and lifestyle opportunities to create a city centre unlike any other in the UK. Metro Bank fits that bill perfectly; vibrant, modern and well regarded in the sector.”

Meanwhile, in Bradford, Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, leader of the Metropolitan District Council, added: “It’s great to see Metro Bank choose Bradford as one of its first locations in the region. The city is home to so many successful SMEs and Metro Bank have obviously recognised this with their new investment.”

Metro Bank now employs around 3,000 people in the United Kingdom and you can find out more about working for the company on their website here.
