Spanish fruit juice firm AMC Group is to create 100 new full or part time jobs in Lancashire with the opening of a new facility in Skelmersdale.

Construction of the new £11 million 55,000 square metre factory got underway at the beginning of last year and the site is now ready to juice up to almost 60,000 oranges per hour.

AMC Group operates in 50 countries around the world and is now ready to start distributing its range of plant-based and dairy free juices nationally across the United Kingdom.

The Skelmersdale factory has already managed to snag its first big customers, with supermarket chain Sainsbury’s taking some of their fresh juice products and Waitrose buying up their premium lemonade range.

Talking up the eco-friendly credentials of the new facility, the Skelmersdale factory’s managing director, Terry Haigh, said: “Everything has been purpose-built so, not only do we have the latest technology for food manufacturing, we also have solar panels to provide a fifth of the site’s energy and we have a ‘zero to landfill’ commitment to environmentally responsible practices.”

“All our wastewater is recycled after particles are sieved out and the fruit peels will be used for animal feed or fuel pellets,” added Mr Haigh.

AMC Group’s Director of fresh Foods, Mike Bullock, also commented, saying: “There’s an exciting future in store for the site. Plant-based products are in huge demand and there is a gap in the market for a dairy-free factory producing fresh, quality products at scale.

“Freshly-squeezed juice is in double-digit growth in the UK compared to a relatively flat juice market and we can deliver in terms of consistency way better than ever before,” added Mr Bullock.
