Aldi To Create Nearly 400 Supermarket Jobs In South East & The West Mids

Aldi has announced plans to open 13 new stores across the South East and the West Midlands, an expansion which the German chain says will create almost 400 new supermarket jobs in the two regions.

An average of 30 full or part time jobs will be created at each of six new Aldi stores to be opened in the West Midlands during 2019, generating around 180 vacancies for the area.

Meanwhile, Aldi plans to open seven new stores across the South East this year, with three in Kent alone. Those launches will see a total of 210 vacancies offered across the South East before the end of 2019.

The round of expansion will see Aldi increase its South East portfolio of stores by ten per cent from 70 to 77 over the next few months.

Aldi has its UK headquarters in the West Midlands, where it employs hundreds of people in Wolverhampton. By the time the chain opens its new stores in the region, it will have around 100 supermarkets in the West Mids.

Commenting on the West Mids jobs in particular, the regional managing director for the Atherstone area, Marius Manolescu, said: “We've set out ambitious plans for this year and we're investing heavily across the West Midlands to ensure even more people in the region can shop and save closer to home. We have a fantastic team across the area and this means we can grow and offer even more employment opportunities for local people.”

“We're excited to see how the stores develop over the next few months and I would encourage local people to keep an eye out for recruitment opportunities,” added Mr Manolescu.

With more than 800 stores, Aldi is now the fastest growing supermarket chain in the UK. It has moved up to fifth place on the list of grocers by market share, closing in on Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons. It aims to increase its total number of UK supermarkets by a further 50 per cent over the next six years, hoping to cross the 1,200 mark by the end of 2025.
