Blackburn With Darwen Council Creates 40 Apprenticeships

Blackburn with Darwen Council has announced plans to recruit 40 new full time apprentices in the North West.

The apprentices can look forward to a two year contract, with pay of up to £20,000 and the equivalent of one days’ training per week.

A wide range of skill sets are encompassed by the 40 new Blackburn apprenticeships, with apprenticeships in bricklaying, road working, electricians, plumbing, finance, advertising, sales, IT, project management and many other areas all up for grabs.

Promoting the new apprenticeships, Blackburn with Darwen Council chief executive, Harry Catherall, a former local council apprentice himself, said: “There’s not enough young people working in the public sector so here at Blackburn with Darwen we’re determined to attract more youngsters who’ll bring new and fresh ideas into the organisation.”

“We also realise that people may be leaving university and looking for that first step on the ladder or that someone may want a complete change in career and feel that an apprenticeship is good for them as they can still earn while they learn.”

"Our absolute commitment is to see those apprentices, regardless of what stage they are at, develop personally and we open up really good opportunities for them. I truly believe that strong careers can be built on apprenticeships and that regardless of whether they’re in engineering, financing or social care, those people can become our future leaders,” added Mr Catherall.

If you are interested in any of the apprenticeships on offer at Blackburn with Darwen Council then take yourself along to their open evening from 5.45pm til 8pm next Thursday at Darwen Vale High School. At that event you can find out more information about all of the apprenticeships as well as being able to chat with managers and existing apprentices at the council.
