The Curtain Falls On National Apprenticeship Week 2019 #NAW2019

Well, that was the week that was! And it’s now the end of another successful National Apprenticeship Week...

We’ve been bringing you live #NAW2019 updates throughout the week on our Facebook and Twitter timelines.

But, now that the curtain has fallen and the dust is starting to settle, what new positives for young UK apprentices can we look back on this year?

Well, new statistics from last month showed that over the last year there were over 800,000 young people taking part on an apprenticeship in England alone. Not bad!

And, on average, those young apprentices are now earning an average of more than £170 a week. Certainly not a life changing sum by any means, but a move in the right direction for UK youth no doubt.

Also, another great benefit which has been flagged up by both recruiters and apprentices this year is that the new degree apprenticeships are saving young people a significant amount on tuition fees.

Other positives this week show that great things are still going on at the grassroots level, too, with local colleges getting right behind NAW2019 yet again.

For example, Bedford College’s Apprentice Recruitment Advisor, Georgina Smith, has been extolling the virtues of apprenticeships this week, saying:

“With apprenticeships, you’re learning on the job but also gaining technical qualifications. You come in to the college one day a week and are taught by a tutor so you get that theoretical knowledge. You can work right up to degree level with apprenticeships and you don’t end up with a debt.”

One of their recent alumni, Sam Gibbs, a new Electrical Apprentice from Bedford College, further endorsed the current system, saying: “With Uni you may not learn things you do on the job. Everything that the company I work for helps me achieve reflects on me as a person and what I do at college.”

“Whenever I achieve something it’s partly down to them too. Being an apprentice has many perks and benefits,” added the new apprentice.

Recruiters are likewise massively behind the latest apprenticeships week. Group HR director at AXA UK & Ireland, Lucinda Charles-Jones, commented earlier: “Here at AXA we strongly believe that one size does not fit all, and that talent comes from a wide range of applicants.”

“Our decision to move away from traditional graduate schemes to apprenticeships has already proved to be a huge success. I’m excited to announce that we will be launching dozens more opportunities throughout the year, starting at National Apprenticeship Week,” said Ms Charles-Jones.

And, although National Apprenticeship Week might be winding down for another year, the opportunities certainly aren’t drying up.

Here are some other great apprenticeship opportunities which are still open - right here and right now on the e4s website - from some of the best recruiters you could possibly hope to set off on your careers ladder with:
