Number Of Christmas Jobs Up More Than 10 Per Cent On 2017

The number of Christmas jobs on offer this year is up more than 10 per cent on 2017, according to new figures from Indeed.com.

Unsurprisingly, almost 3 in 4 of the Christmas vacancies are retail jobs but other seasonal niche positions such as dressing up as Santa in grottos (or his wife!) and as elves accounts for 1 in 25 opportunities for Xmas 2018.

More surprisingly, catering and hospitality vacancies like bar work and waiting on jobs only make up 1 in 50 seasonal Christmas positions in 2018.

In total, the number of Xmas jobs up for grabs this year was up by 11 per cent on last year, with other vacancies including warehousing jobs, driving opportunities and merchandising roles.

Commenting on the latest stats, Pawel Adrjan, UK Economist for Indeed Hiring Lab, said, “Whilst shoppers can leave their Christmas preparations until later in the year, our data shows employers began ramping up their seasonal workforce in early Autumn. This year, however, Christmas jobs postings on Indeed in Ireland soared earlier and faster than in 2017.”

“This is likely to be boosted by other seasonal retail events such as Black Friday, which happens in November. Demand for seasonal employment is increasing against a backdrop of record low unemployment, which makes it harder for businesses to find employees for temporary roles,” added Mr Adrjan.

If you are hoping to find some work over the Christmas holidays, then it’s not too late - but you’d better get your skates on as vacancies are being snapped up fast this year. Check out all of the latest opportunities now on our page of Christmas Jobs For Students.
