Lloyds Banking Restructure To Net 2,000 New Digital Jobs

The Lloyds Banking Group has announced restructure plans which will see the finance firm create a net 2,000 new digital jobs.

As the company moves further towards digital technology rather than traditional banking, the Group has decided to close its offices at Gillingham in Kent, which along with other redundancies across their business will lead to job losses of more than 6,200.

However, Lloyds says that the restructure of its operations will lead to a total of 8,240 new jobs being created over the next two years, a net benefit of 2,000 jobs once the restructure is complete.

Lloyds say that most of the staff who will lose their jobs in Gillingham and other places should be able to relocate into one of the new roles which will be created by the £3 billion reshuffle before the end of 2020.

Commenting on the restructure, a spokesperson for the Group said: “Lloyds Banking has today announced that it will create an additional circa 2,000 roles, as it strengthens its capability to offer customers new leading-edge digital banking products and services.”

“The Group is investing to further digitise the bank and will refresh some existing roles and create new roles within its structure, while also providing comprehensive retraining for colleagues to help them build their capabilities to meet the demands of these future roles.”

“This forms part of the £3bn commitment the group has made to invest heavily in its technology and people over the course of its three-year strategic plan,” added the spokesperson.
