Network Rail To Create 200 New Jobs In Scotland

Network Rail has announced a recruitment drive to fill around 200 jobs in Scotland this summer.

The vacancies will be spread across Scotland and will include a range of positions including admin, construction, logistics, planning jobs, project management, rail operatives, technicians and team leaders.

Network Rail describes the jobs bonanza in Scotland as one of the ‘biggest recruitment drives in its history’ and said that the new recruits will help them look after over 350 train stations across 2,800 miles of railtrack.

Network Rail also revealed that it would be spending £4 billion over the next five years as it improves and maintains the rail network and infrastructure in Scotland.

Explaining why people should come to work for the company, Nick Pascazio, Head of HR for Network Rail Scotland, said:

“We’re currently building the best railway Scotland has ever had and to do that we need to recruit and retain the best people. The railway is an exciting and fast-growing industry, and Network Rail can offer you a rewarding career whether you are returning to work after a career break, a school leaver, a graduate or looking for a change of career or industry.”

“Rail travel is more popular now than ever before, with more than 96 million passengers travelling in Scotland each year, and our industry makes an important contribution to keeping the country and its economy moving,” added Mr Pascazio.

Network Rail already employs 3,000 people in full and part time roles in Scotland, so the new recruitment drive will see them increase their headcount in the country by almost 7 per cent. Across the whole of the United Kingdom, Network Rail provides jobs for more than 40,000 people.

Meanwhile, ScotRail has also announced jobs for Scottish railways, saying they would be recruiting over 100 new conductors, drivers and ticket inspectors in the coming months.

ScotRail’s Managing Director, Alex Hynes, said: “The work we are doing to build the best railway Scotland has ever had will deliver faster journeys, more seats and better services. We’re recruiting more than 100 people to make that a reality for our customers.”

“This £4 million recruitment drive is a major investment in Scotland’s economy. Recruitment on this scale creates great career opportunities for our people and new recruits,” added Mr Hynes.
