Discount retailer Matalan is to create 150 temporary jobs in Liverpool as it gears up for a busy summer of trading.

The 150 seasonal positions will be at Matalan’s massive distribution centre in Kirkby, with a range of warehouse operative roles on offer.

The Liverpool jobs will be for an initial 12 week contract but Matalan says that some staff could be taken on permanently after the temporary roles finish.

All of the Matalan warehouse jobs will be full time weekday positions but three different shifts will be available to keep the distribution centre running 24 hours a day from Monday to Friday.

The three shifts will be a morning one from 6am-2pm, an afternoon one from 2pm-10pm and an overnight one from 10pm-6am.

Recruitment is already underway for the Matalan jobs but the retailer will continue to look for staff until the end of August. As well as the chance of a permanent job after 3 months, staff at Matalan are also entitled to an in-store 20 per cent discount.

Explaining why they are hiring in Liverpool, a Matalan spokesperson said: “Matalan’s Retail and eCommerce business has grown and demand continues to grow. As a consequence Matalan has invested in the team to deliver this growth, supporting the current team, the business needs and future employees in the best way possible.”
