EY, the professional services and consultancy firm, has announced plans to create almost 100 new finance jobs in Belfast, with dozens of the roles earmarked for graduates in the city.

Nearly half of the jobs will be graduate vacancies in Belfast, with 45 places to be filled in September this year.

A further 50 Belfast jobs will be added by EY with a range of roles up for grabs for candidates who already have experience in the sector.

The recruitment drive is part of a larger plan to add over 500 new staff across the whole of the island of Ireland of the coming months. As well as in Belfast, EY will also be recruiting graduates in Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Galway and Waterford, with more than 300 graduate positions to be filled in total.

EY already employs over 2,500 members of staff in Ireland, but the new round of recruitment will see the firm increase its headcount by over 20 per cent by the end of the year.

Positions to be filled will include data analytics jobs, risk management positions, customer experience roles and digital strategy experts.

Commenting on the Belfast jobs, EY’s managing partner for Northern Ireland, Michael Hall said: “While geopolitical, uncertainty and technological disruption will undoubtedly present both challenges and opportunities for businesses, we are facing these challenges from a position of great strength and flexibility.”

“In the last year, approximately 60 per cent of offers we’ve made in Ireland have been to people with non-traditional accounting and tax backgrounds. Tax and accounting experts will always be core to our business, and the combination of traditional and innovative capabilities means we can provide market-leading products and services that help our clients continue to tackle some of today’s most complex and pressing issues.”

Ireland’s Taoiseach Leo Varadkar welcomed the EY announcement of new jobs on the island, saying: “I am delighted that EY is announcing the creation of more than 500 high-quality positions, providing opportunities in the areas such as accounting, science, engineering and technology.”
