Eddie Stobart To Create Over 700 Jobs In Cheshire & Greater Manchester

Eddie Stobart, the iconic truck and trailer logistics fleet, is to create over 700 new full or part time jobs in Cheshire and Greater Manchester as it expands its UK headquarters.

The famous red and green lorry firm has applied for planning permission to add almost 60,000 square metres of warehousing space at its Warrington headquarters.

The development would come at an investment of £75 million and will create 480 permanent roles in Warrington. Bosses estimate that a further 250 jobs will be created off site in the Greater Manchester area if the plans get past by Warrington Borough Council.

Commenting on the expansion plans, Eddie Stobart Logistics’ Chief Executive Officer, Alex Laffey, said: “We moved our headquarters to Warrington in 2014 and have invested heavily in our facilities, adding a training academy in 2016. This development would make a significant contribution to achieving our strategic growth objectives and supports our commitment to Warrington and to the Northern Powerhouse project.”

“I am sure the people of Warrington and Warrington Borough Council will agree that this is great news for the borough and will support our planning application and the creation of hundreds of jobs,” added the CEO.

Phillip Morris of Liberty Properties, a developer who is liaising with Warrington Borough Council on Eddie Stobart’s behalf, also commented, saying: “This is one of the largest projects we have taken on in the North West, and certainly one of the most important. At a time when warehousing jobs are disappearing from the area, securing planning permission would allow Eddie Stobart Logistics create hundreds of them.”

“The whole Liberty Properties team has worked with senior Council officers to ensure the development will be a positive addition for the residents of Warrington, future employees and the North West region. This facility, when completed, will add £18 million per year to the Warrington economy,” said Mr Morris.

Eddie Stobart Logistics employs over 3,800 drivers and a further 2,200 employees in a variety of roles across its business. As well as the UK, Eddie Stobart also works in Ireland and Belgium. You can find out more about working at Eddie Stobart on their careers website.
