New Distribution Centre To Create 100 Shropshire Jobs

A new distribution centre for Palethorpes Bakery, owned by the Addo Food Group, has created 100 full and part time jobs in Shropshire.

The new £1.3 million distribution centre has been opened at Palethorpes Bakery’s Market Drayton base and will also create even more temporary jobs later this year.

The historic Palethorpes Bakery has been a fixture of Market Drayton since the middle of the nineteenth century and already employs over 600 people across a variety of roles and shifts.

The distribution hub will now help Palethorpes Bakery to deliver over 50 million sausage rolls and 60 million other products each year, as well as increasing the firm’s headcount by more than 15 per cent.

Starting wages at the distribution facility range from £15,000 right up to £22,000 depending on which shifts are worked and the skill set of the employee.

Palethorpes is also creating an outreach programme at Grove School in Market Drayton in an attempt to attract youngsters into school leaver positions with one of the Shropshire town’s major employers or other companies within the food sector.

Palethorpes Bakery’s Human Resources Manager, Jason Page, said: “This is a very exciting time for us here at Palethorpes Bakery, with more than £1 million investment in improving our distribution capacity and the creation of over 100 new jobs.”

“We’re actively involved in the community here in Market Drayton and are interested to hear from candidates who want to find out about the exciting opportunities we have to offer,” added Mr Page.

Speaking at the official opening of the distribution centre last week, the mayor of Market Drayton, Councillor Mark Whittle, who used to work at Palethorpes Bakery himself, said: “As a former worker of Palethorpes, I feel very proud to be here cutting the ribbon on this wonderful building. I left about five years ago so it's good to be back.”

“Palethorpes is such an important part of the community in Market Drayton because the majority of the people who work here come from the town. It's been here many years and has provided jobs to so many local people. To invest £1.3m on the factory and to take on another 100 staff is amazing news for Market Drayton,” added the mayor.
