Delt Shared Services, an IT partnership between local government and the NHS, has announced that it could create over 450 new full or part time jobs in Plymouth over the next couple of years.

The firm already employs 140 people in Plymouth but expects to boost that through the 200 mark over the next twelve months. It has already doubled its staffing levels over the last two years and Delt now forecasts that its current success could eventually lead to a total headcount of around 600 staff in Plymouth before the end of 2020.

Many of the predicted new Plymouth jobs could be created by expanding their current range of IT services to also include other support functions to local government and the NHS, such as catering, cleaning, HR, payroll and security.

Commenting on the potential for new jobs at the company, Chief Finance Officer at Delt, Paul James, said: “The number of jobs could go up to 600 if we get the facilities contracts. We are talking to other local authorities and NHS organisations, but these things take time. But we are looking at the next couple of years.”

In an effort to attract strong talent into the firm at a young age, Delt has worked with the University of Plymouth to offer a number of four year degree apprenticeships.

Head of Workforce & Brand for Delt mentioned that finding good talent hadn’t so far been difficult for the firm, saying: “We’ve not got a problem recruiting. People want to come to us, they see how different we are.”

And maybe much of that could be put down to their modern workplace practices such as hot-desking, flexitime and time-out facilities for staff like table tennis tables in the office.

“It’s all family friendly. We even have a monthly ‘spud day’ where Delt buys in jacket potatoes for anyone who wants them,” added Delt’s Learning & Organisational Development Specialist Lindsey Edmonds.
