The Perfume Shop has announced its festive recruitment plans and the fragrance retail chain says it is taking on 1,000 Christmas staff for the 2017 holidays.

The seasonal roles at The Perfume Shop run right up to Christmas Eve and flexible hours are available starting from just 4 hours right up to 16 hours a week.

The Perfume Shop says that some Christmas Sales Assistants will work into the New Year period and that some temporary roles could morph into permanent positions for top quality workers. Around 200 staff, or 20 per cent of all Christmas Sales Assistants, were made permanent after starting out as temps at The Perfume Shop last year.

As well as earning a competitive hourly wage, Christmas Sales Assistants at The Perfume Shop will also benefit from a 20 per cent in-store employee discount.

In addition to Christmas Sales Assistants, The Perfume Shop is also looking for temporary customer service staff and needs to boost its warehouse teams as it gears up for a busy period of trading.

Speaking to The Sun, Wigan’s Emily May Hewitt who joined The Perfume Shop as a temporary sales assistant five years ago and who is now an acting store manager for the retailer, said: “My first few weeks were a whirlwind. I hadn’t realised how much knowledge I’d need to soak up. It wasn’t just about selling perfume, it was about recommending the right perfume based on the customer’s likes and dislikes.”

“Every day is different. I love the customer interaction. Building that relationship and seeing them sharing their fragrance stories makes my job even more enjoyable,” added Ms Hewitt.
