Amazon is to open another fulfilment centre in the North West, a move which will create around 1,200 full and part time jobs in Bolton.

Positions up for grabs at the huge new facility in Bolton include warehouse roles such as pickers, packers and shippers along with other vacancies for engineers, HR teams, IT staff and operations managers.

The new warehouse is set to open on the Logistics North industrial area in the Lancashire town next year but recruitment is already underway for many of the roles on offer.

Amazon's director of customer fulfilment, Stefano Perego, said: “Our ability to expand in the North West of England is the result of two things - incredible customers and an outstanding workforce. We are thrilled to begin recruitment for 1,200 new permanent roles in Bolton, with competitive wages and comprehensive benefits starting on day one.”

Mr Perego added that, since 2016, Amazon has created 3,500 new jobs in the North West, with other fulfilment centres in Manchester and Warrington. Nationwide, the online retailer employs over 24,000 people in full and part time roles across most parts of the UK.

Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, described the Amazon announcement as ‘great news for our residents’.

“It is fantastic that such a major company has decided to open such a huge operation in Bolton. We are absolutely delighted that this development will create at least 1,200 jobs for local people and those living in the surrounding area.”

“This is a real coup for our town and it is continuing proof that Bolton is open for business. Logistics North is one of the most important sites in the region and this is further proof that it is the perfect distribution site for business.”

“It is no surprise that a global company as large as this is coming here. Our town recently ranked ninth in the country for the best place to work and live, so Bolton is clearly an attractive proposition for job growth,” added Councillor Morris.
