Waitrose To Create 150 Supermarket Jobs In Worcestershire

Upmarket retailer Waitrose is to create 150 new full or part time supermarket jobs in Worcestershire with a new store set to open next March.

The new Waitrose, to be opened in Worcestershire’s Evesham and cover more than 28,000 square feet, is being built on the site of the market town’s former fire station.

Wychavon District Council will use construction firm Midas Retail to build the new Waitrose and will be the owner of the premises, letting it out to the retailer on a 20 year lease. Midas are already at work building the new Waitrose but it will take until next spring 2018 to finish.

Commenting on the deal, Wychavon District Council’s Deputy Managing Director, Vic Allison, said: “We’re delighted to appoint Midas to construct this important store for us, which will see the prestigious brand Waitrose coming to Evesham. We’ve already seen the benefits that having a Waitrose store in town brings from the impact of the Droitwich scheme, and we’re confident Evesham will benefit in a similar way.”

Jonathan Banham, Development Surveyor for Waitrose, said: “While we appreciate there will be a period of disruption with a project of this scale, we are looking forward to delivering a quality food store that will provide our very latest offer and ensure we make a positive contribution to the town's future.”

“This is another significant milestone in achieving our long-held aspiration to open in Evesham,” added Mr Banham.
