Rising passenger numbers mean than East Midlands Airport will create dozens of new full or part time summer jobs this year.

Around 5 per cent more people have transited through East Midlands Airport over the last twelve months compared to the previous twelve months, and this April was up around 7 per cent on last April.

The airport is expecting its busiest ever summer this year, and 4.7 million passengers have used East Midlands over the last twelve months. Last month alone, over 400 thousand travellers set off from East Midlands Airport with carriers such as Jet2 and Ryanair.

The rise in visitor numbers means that restaurants and shops in the airport need more staff to serve customers travelling through the Main Terminal Building.

Giving more details about the increasing visitor levels, East Midlands Airport’s Managing Director, Andy Cliffe, said: “Maintaining growth throughout the year, even though we had periods of closure due to our successful runway refurbishment programme, is very encouraging. We have seen strong month on month growth throughout last year, resulting in us having the best summer season since the recession in 2008. With new routes and opportunities for travel, we are developing our destination portfolio with each coming season.”

“In the first few weeks of the summer season, which included the Easter holiday, we have seen increases in people travelling through our airport. Our newly refurbished shops, bars and restaurants have has a great response from customers and we cannot wait to welcome even more people through ours doors as the summer really kicks in,” added Mr Cliffe.
