Amazon To Deliver 400 New Development Jobs In Cambridge

Amazon has announced plans to open a new facility which will create 400 development jobs in Cambridge.

The online retailer will complete the 5,600 square metre development centre in Cambridge city centre towards the end of this year, creating space for hundreds of highly-skilled workers such as graduates.

At the new development centre, near to Cambridge train station, Amazon will be looking for specialists and graduates to work in everything from machine learning to mathematical modelling and from speech science to software engineering.

Country Manager for Amazon UK, Doug Gurr, said: “We are constantly inventing on behalf of our customers, and our development centres in Cambridge, Edinburgh and London play a major role in Amazon’s global innovation story.”

“By the end of this year, we will have more than 1,500 innovation related roles here in Britain, working on everything from machine learning and drone technology to streaming video technology and Amazon Web Services,” added Mr Gurr.

Matt Hancock, Minister of State for Digital & Culture, welcomed the announcement, saying: “This is fantastic news - Amazon's increased investment in developing cutting-edge technology in Cambridge is another vote of confidence in the UK as a world-leading centre of invention and innovation.”

The news of Cambridge vacancies at Amazon for graduates and other highly-skilled workers comes just a week after we brought you news of the retailer’s 1,200 new jobs in Warrington.
