BT has announced new recruitment plans which include over 240 new call centre jobs in the North West and North East.

In the North West, BT is adding 97 call centre staff in Warrington and 52 new employees will join the team in Accrington. In the North East, BT will advertise 92 call centre vacancies at its Gosforth offices in Newcastle.

The recruitment drive comes as BT continues it mission to have 9 in 10 call centre queries answered within the UK and Ireland rather than outsourcing overseas.

Commenting on the Warrington roles, Chairman of BT’s North West regional board, Mike Blackburn, said: “We have been impressed with the high quality of our Warrington recruits. They show great enthusiasm and a determination to provide customers with a first class service.”

And, of the Newcastle jobs, Farooq Hakim, chairman of BT’s North East regional board, said: “Since April last year, we have recruited more than 110 people at our contact centre in Gosforth as part of our commitment to provide the best possible service for our customers. Following on from that success, we are now looking for a further 90 people to join us.”

Managing director of BT customer care, Libby Barr, said: “They’re joining at an exciting time in our transformation. We are investing millions of pounds improving our systems, providing more training and enhancing our online services. It will result in a better service for our customers and even more rewarding careers for our people.”
