Lidl To Create 360 More Jobs In Scotland

German discount supermarket chain Lidl has announced plans for a new distribution centre in Lanarkshire which it says will create 360 new full or part time jobs in Scotland.

Lidl will start construction work on the new warehouse, to be located at Eurocentral on Coddington Crescent near the end of the M8, before the end of 2017 now that North Lanarkshire Council have okayed the plans.

The supermarket chain already has a distribution hub employing 400 people in Livingston but those staff will relocate to the new 58,000 square metre Eurocentral warehouse once it is complete.

Lidl says that the 360 new Scottish jobs which will be up for grabs include a mix of warehouse roles, along with customer service positions and jobs within the company’s payroll functions.

Lidl now has more than 90 supermarkets north of the border, and, commenting on the new warehouse facility in the country, Ross Millar, managing director for Lidl in Scotland, said:

“We have worked very closely with North Lanarkshire Council since 2016 and are greatly encouraged by the committee's decision at today's committee meeting. Our new distribution centre not only signifies an investment in our own infrastructure and workforce, but also highlights our wider ambitions within Scotland as Lidl UK continues to experience incredible growth.”

“Our expansion could not be possible without being able to recruit the right people and I am equally proud that we were the first supermarket to pay the living wage rate as set by the Living Wage Foundation,” added Mr Millar.

Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, Councillor Jim Logue, welcomed the announcement, saying: “I am delighted that Lidl has decided to locate its new distribution centre at Eurocentral, creating more than 360 new jobs and safeguarding another 300 posts.”

“This highlights Eurocentral and North Lanarkshire’s position as a prime location for business, benefiting from first class transport links, capacity to expand and a skilled local workforce, and is a significant boost to the local economy,” added Councillor Logue.

Across the UK, Lidl now has more than 650 stores and provides jobs for over 20,000 people. If you are interested in working for the German supermarket chain then click through to our company profile about Lidl jobs and careers now.
