John Lewis has announced plans for two new distribution hubs which will create around 500 new full and part time jobs in Milton Keynes.

The new facilities will be an expansion of their existing Magna Park operation in Milton Keynes, and, once complete, will see the location become one of the largest distribution centres in Europe.

The move comes as John Lewis is riding high with online sales figures surging by more than 20 per cent in the last twelve months. John Lewis is spending over £250 million on its distribution operations in order to keep up with the delivery of insatiable demand for its products by online shoppers.

Explaining the need for the new logistics hubs in Milton Keynes, the operations manager for John Lewis, Dino Rocos, said: “Our distribution centres are at the heart of our business and these advanced facilities enable us to adapt to the ever-evolving retail market. Customers want quick and convenient deliveries and fast replenishment of our shops, this investment puts us in a strong position for the years to come.”

Many of the 500 new employees that the John Lewis distribution expansion will create will be locals of Milton Keynes and there will be an on-site training facility for new warehouse staff.
