German discount supermarket chain Lidl is to create 100 new jobs in Scotland if plans for a new 50 acre distribution centre in Greater Glasgow are approved by North Lanarkshire council.
The proposed facility will be built on Coddington Crescent and replace their current Scottish distribution centre in Livingston. Lidl say that all workers from their West Lothian Livingston facility will be able to transfer to the new site in Greater Glasgow and that a further 100 positions will be created by the relocation.
Lidl’s managing director for Scotland, Ross Millar, said that the move was part of the chain’s expansion plans in the country and that they were now looking forward to getting the planning application ready and submitted. that building at the site could get under way next year if backed by the council.
Mr Millar confirmed that building work at the North Lanarkshire site could get under way next year if backed by the council, and said: “We've seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across the country and look forward to servicing our existing 91 stores and future new stores from our new distribution hub, allowing us to continue offering our customers the best quality products at the lowest possible prices.”
“We are firmly committed to helping boost the local economy by creating new jobs through the construction of the new centre,” added Mr Millar.
