McDonald’s To Create 5,000 New Jobs Throughout UK

Fast food burger chain McDonald’s is to open 250 new restaurants in the United Kingdom, a move which will create around 5,000 new full and part time jobs throughout the UK.

The new jobs will be added over the course of the next 18 months, taking the total number of UK employees at McDonald’s to over 115,000 people.

The 5,000 vacancies at the food giant will consist of a mixture of flexible roles, with both full time vacancies and part time positions up for a grabs at hundreds of new UK locations. Around 4 in 5 of the new McDonald’s vacancies will be part time positions of less than 30 hours per week, meaning that many students should be able to fill a majority of the roles.

McDonald's UK chief executive officer, Paul Pomroy, said: “As a major UK employer, we have added more than 15,000 people to our workforce during the last five years as a result of our sustained business growth and long-term investment in recruitment and training.”

“These remain challenging economic conditions but I'm pleased that, together with our franchisees, we remain committed to the UK, and our continued focus on serving quality, affordable food and giving our customers a great experience is enabling us to keep investing in our business and creating jobs,” added Mr Pomroy.

Welcoming the news, Greg Clark, the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Secretary, said: “McDonald's announcement that they will be creating over 5,000 new jobs is great news for the UK economy. The Government is committed to ensuring businesses have the support they need to thrive and today's announcement underlines that businesses are confident that the UK remains open for business.”
