Arco Set To Create Over 200 More Jobs In Hull

Arco, a company which supplies over 170,000 work safety products worldwide, is set to create over 200 new jobs in Hull if planning consent is given for a second distribution facility in the city.

The new distribution centre will be at the company’s existing base on the A63 but will add a further 220,000 square feet of warehouse and logistics floor space at a cost of £25 million.

If Hull City Council give the go ahead to the new Arco distribution centre, to be named NDC2, then the company expects to start construction next year and complete the facility by 2018, generating hundreds of Hull jobs and doubling their potential output in the process.

Addressing concerns that the distribution centre should fit in with the environs, a statement from Arco said:

“We have recruited one of the original architects who helped this become such a major iconic building in the city. Built to the latest sustainability standards and project managed by local practice Alan Wood and Partners, the new building is aesthetically designed to blend in with its local surroundings. The exterior façade of the building will be clad in a mosaic of colours, with blue and grey shades to complement the family of buildings.”

Commenting on the proposed facility, Joint Managing Director of Arco, Neil Jowsey, said: “Arco is deeply committed to the local economy, its people and environment, so it made natural sense that the NDC2 be built here on home soil.”

“We are working with local architects and experts to design and construct a building that will complement the surrounding area and provide a sustainable, high-tech facility to enable us to grow our business and provide a secure future for Arco in Hull,” added Mr Jowsey.
