B&M Expansion To Create 4,000 New Jobs

B&M, the discount retail chain is to create 4,000 new full or part time jobs as it continues to expand around the UK.

The retailer, which sees over 3 million shoppers enter it stores every week, is to add around 50 new stores each year, creating thousands of retail jobs over the next two years.

Last year, B&M opened almost 80 new stores, creating over 2,800 new full and part time jobs, and posted profits of over £150 million, an increase of 150 per cent on the previous financial year. Over 600 new jobs were also created at B&M distribution hubs in Liverpool and Blackpool.

The firm now plans to continue the expansion into new areas of the UK to take their total number of stores to around 850 by the end of 2018.

Announcing the expansion plans, Simon Arora, chief executive at B&M said: “As a result of the 79 new stores opened in the financial year, we have now passed the milestone of 500 UK stores. In the UK, there are many locations where we don’t currently trade but would like to.”

B&M also has stores in Germany and is still expanding there too. The retailer already had 50 stores in Germany and added a further six new branches in the last financial year.
