Sky Betting and Gaming has announced £11 million investment plans to take on more staff in Yorkshire in a move which will see the gambling firm create 200 jobs in Leeds and Sheffield.

The company is investing £5 million in Sheffield and £6 million in Leeds as it swells its workforce in the region. The new vacancies will be split equally between the two Yorkshire cities, with 100 full or part time vacancies on offer in both Sheffield and Leeds.

Sky Betting and Gaming has its main headquarters in Leeds and wants to create dozens more contact centre jobs and technology roles at new offices in the city. The Sheffield jobs will also be technology positions, based at the company’s offices in the city’s state of the art creative, digital and media Electric Works hub.

Once the current round of recruitment is finished at Sky Betting & Gaming, the company will be close to employing 1,000 members of staff in Yorkshire.

Announcing the new Yorkshire jobs, Chief Executive of Sky Betting & Gaming, Richard Flint said: “With the business performing well we have decided that now is the time to significantly increase our investment in people and facilities. This is a vote of confidence not only in our own plans to make betting and gaming better but also in the health of the Yorkshire economy.”

Commenting on the Leeds jobs in particular, the leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Judith Blake, said: “This is fantastic news for the city and further evidence of Leeds’ strength as a digital hub. We’re delighted that Sky Betting & Gaming continues to invest in job opportunities here and the rest of Yorkshire.”

And, focusing on the new Sheffield vacancies which will double its headcount in the Yorkshire city, Sky Betting and Gaming’s chief technology officer, Andy Burton, said: “This is a great opportunity for talented individuals to create a unique workplace and build new, innovative products as part of the next phase of our growth.”
