Ocado To Deliver 1,800 Jobs Before Christmas

Ocado, the British online supermarket, is to bring some festive cheer by delivering 1,800 new full and part time jobs before Christmas 2015.

The new supermarket jobs at Ocado will all be permanent positions and the majority of vacancies will be for drivers jobs, grocery packers and loaders. Other roles on offer at Ocado before Christmas will include customer service positions, HR vacancies along with openings within their operations and technology departments.

Ocado has been in talks with supermarket businesses from abroad - such as Safeway in the US and Carrefour in France - and is looking to form some sort of partnership with a suitable company and expand the reach of their business. However, a spokesperson for Ocado said that the 1,800 new jobs before Christmas were to be advertised to fill demand within the UK rather than to anticipate growth overseas.

Ocado is building a new five floor distribution facility in Andover, Hampshire which is set to be operational in the next few months. The warehouse will be the company’s third such facility and will have the capacity to fulfil 70,000 orders each week with a fleet of almost 100 delivery vehicles. It is thought that at least 700 new jobs will be based at the new Andover facility once it is up and running early in 2016.

Ocado’s director of human resources, Julie Markey, said that her company offers highly competitive wages to their staff, and provide premium rates for employees that work at weekends and during the evenings. In addition, all Ocado workers are entitled to 15 per cent discount with the firm and enjoy a range of other employee benefits too.

“We have been rapidly expanding our business across the country. Our new recruits, at all levels, will play a vital role in our business and will be the driving force behind our next stage of development so it’s an exciting time to join us,” added Ms Markey.

If you are looking for a few weeks work over the holidays this year then supermarket vacancies are always on offer in every area of the UK. But, no matter what sort of seasonal role you are hoping to grab, you’ll find all of the latest opportunities on our frequently updated page of Christmas Jobs For Students.
