An extension at Silverburn Shopping Centre is set to create a further 140 full and part time jobs in Glasgow in the next couple of months.

Cineworld will create 70 new cinema jobs at the leisure facility in the Pollok area of Glasgow, and McDonald’s will serve up a further 70 restaurant jobs at the shopping centre.

The new jobs follow quickly in the footsteps of the 20 new restaurant jobs created just last week when a branch of Chimichanga opened its doors at Silverburn. In total, the new £20 million extension will have generated 160 new Glasgow jobs within just three months.

The extension of the Silverburn Shopping Centre started two years ago and covers an area of more than 117,000 square feet.

McDonald’s are already recruiting for their 70 new positions in Glasgow - and Cineworld are hosting a jobs fair on the 11th April to find suitable recruits for their 14 screen cinema when it opens some time in June. David Pierotti, general manager of the Silverburn Shopping Centre, said, “This is a very exciting time for Silverburn and the local community. These 160 positions being filled is another big step towards our ambition to create a lively leisure destination in the heart of Pollok.”

McDonald’s and Cineworld will join existing tenants at the Silverburn extension, such as Carluccio's, Cosmo, Five Guys, Pizza Express, TGI Friday's and Zizzi. The main shopping centre at Silverburn has more than 100 shops, including major retailers like Argos, Boots, Card Factory, Clintons, Debenhams, Fat Face, Game, JD Sports, Marks & Spencer, New Look, Sports Direct and Vodafone.
