9,000 Christmas Jobs Still Unfilled For The 2014 Holidays

It’s not too late! There are still thousands of Christmas jobs out there for students who want to do some work over the holidays this year...

Adzuna, the classifieds search engine, reports that there are still 9,000 temporary jobs still to be filled in 2014, up by 50 per cent on this time twelve months ago. The majority of the temporary positions still up for grabs are sales vacancies, logistic roles and retail jobs.

Almost all of the major employers - such as Royal Mail, Sainsbury's, Argos and Amazon - who traditionally recruit in massive numbers for the busy holiday season have fewer temporary jobs on offer in 2014 than 2013, but, between them, the top ten seasonal recruiters will still have advertised over 100,000 temporary and part time jobs for the holidays. And, in addition, a greater number of smaller firms are hiring in a big way for Christmas this year, meaning that the overall number of holiday jobs still in swilling around in the system has actually up significantly on last year.

Some of the Christmas jobs which you could apply for are a little unusual (eg. Christmas Present Selectors in Norwich, Apprentice Turkey Chefs in Tyne & Wear, Addictive Christmas Game Developers in London and Train Driving Elves in the West Midlands) and some employers are willing to pay as much as £500 for drivers who are willing to work on Christmas Day.

Co-Founder of Adzuna, Andrew Hunter, outlined the current trends in the Christmas job market: “The year-on-year decrease in temporary, part-time vacancies offered by some of the major Christmas recruiters this year speaks of the increasing automation of roles. Although it certainly hasn’t impacted overall festive recruitment numbers, as new players like delivery firm Yodel and a wealth of smaller employers serve to plug the gap.”

We still have loads of Christmas vacancies being advertised through this site too - and all of them are perfect for students and other young people like you. If you need to boost your coffers this Christmas, then take a look at what seasonal work is still available in your area for the holidays on our page of UK Christmas Jobs.
