Iceland To Create Over 1,200 New UK Supermarket Jobs

Iceland, the frozen food supermarket chain, has announced expansion plans which will create more than 1,200 supermarket jobs across the UK.

The chain opened 46 new supermarkets in its last financial year and expects to open a similar number of new stores this year too. With an average of around 30 full and part time jobs created by a typical Iceland store opening, the continuing expansion should see somewhere between 1,200 and 1,300 supermarket jobs added by the Flintshire based firm this year.

Iceland passed through the 800 store mark during the last twelve months and now employs over 25,000 people in a variety of full and part time roles. By the end of the current financial year, the chain will be closing in fast on a portfolio of 900 stores in the UK as it hopes to further chip away at the market share of some of the bigger UK supermarket chains.

Chief executive of Iceland, Malcolm Walker, said: “This has been a year of major investment for Iceland both at home and overseas. In the UK we accelerated our expansion programme with the opening of 46 new stores and also rolled out our online shopping offer to 280 stores. We were also delighted to regain our title as the ‘Best Big Company To Work For in the UK’.”
