Alton Towers, the thrillseeker’s paradise near Stoke-On-Trent, is to create 75 new full or part time UK theme park jobs with an extension to its existing accommodation facilities.

The new accommodation, to be branded as Enchanted Village, will have a ‘fairytale’ theme and consist of over 100 lodges and a handful of tree houses. When completed next year, the new overnight holiday facilities at Alton Towers will provide accommodation for over 600 visitors and will create dozens of new jobs at the Alton site.

Director of development at Alton Towers, Mark Kerrigan, said that the new accommodation would increase the number of visitors who stay over at the theme park and highlighted some of the benefits that the expansion plan will bring to the region:

“This is important to Alton Towers Resort which plays an important role in supporting local companies and suppliers. The resort attracts lots of people which again supports local businesses. People who stay at the resort spend four times more than a day visitors,” said Mr Kerrigan.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council have given full backing to the Alton Towers plans, which also include a new restaurant and children’s park in addition to the new fairytale accommodation towards the northern end of the theme park.

Welcoming the announcement, local councillor Mike Worthington said: “This is an exciting development. It is fantastic that money is being invested. People will stay longer which will help traffic flows. It will also produce more employment for the Staffordshire Moorlands.”

During the peak theme park season Alton Towers sees over 20,000 visitors per day pass through their gates, providing permanent and seasonal summer jobs for over 2,000 people in Staffordshire.
