Vodafone To Create 1,400 New Retail Jobs In The UK

Vodafone, the leading mobile phone retailer, has announced plans to open 150 new shops on the high streets of the UK in a move which it says will create around 1,400 retail jobs in the UK this year.

The expansion plan will cost Vodafone over £100 million, but the company hopes the investment will help them to swell their UK customer numbers upwards as well as providing a better customer service experience to its current customer base of around 19 million people.

Vodafone’s chief executive in the UK, Jeroen Hoencamp, said that if the expansion on the high street proves successful in 2014, then more store openings and new jobs could follow next year.

“We want to take this company back to growth. I’m aiming for a healthy mix of direct sales and partners, possibly fewer than we have today. We’re aiming to create a seamless customer experience,” said Mr Hoencamp.

The store expansion by Vodafone this year will see them rapidly pull away from the number of shops that the Three mobile phone company trades from in the UK. It will also see them pass the number of stores that O2 has on the high streets, and, by the end of the year Vodafone will boast more than 500 outlets and will be catching up on EE, the UK’s biggest mobile phone company which has around 600 shops around the country.

Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed the new jobs at Vodafone and took it as evidence that government measures on employment were having a big effect.

“It is a sign that our long-term economic plan to create jobs and build a stronger, more competitive economy is working,” said Mr Cameron.

The big mobile phone companies create thousands of retail jobs on the high streets of the UK every year - and we advertise a sizeable portion of them right here on the e4s student jobs website. As well as Vodafone, students can also find tons of jobs throughout the towns and cities of the UK at leading names like Phones 4u and O2.
