North West’s Morris Homes To Build 1,900 New Construction Jobs

Morris Homes has announced a new round of house building projects which it says will create around 1,900 construction jobs in the North West, Midlands and other parts of the UK.

The North West company, which has its head office in Wilmslow, Cheshire, says that it has 20 projects in the pipeline and will create hundreds of construction jobs in each region where it builds new homes.

Future projects of Morris Homes this year include new builds in areas including Bedford, West Wixams, Appley Bridge, Congleton, Warrington, Lytham-St-Annes, Wordsley, Rothwell, Coventry and Elmesthorpe.

Morris Homes has been building houses in the UK for over 50 years and has grown into a company with a turnover of almost a quarter of a million pounds per year. The latest batch of developments just announced will see over 2,000 new homes built at a total valuation of more than £400 million.

Chief executive of Morris Homes, Mike Gaskell, said that his company has ‘an active land buying programme’ going forward which will see it opening up development opportunities in more and more locations and allow them to create a variety of subcontracted and direct construction jobs around the country.

“The underlying shortage of new homes in the UK, combined with strong buyer confidence and the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, has created excellent conditions for Morris Homes to embark on a bigger build programme across a broader geography,” said Mr Gaskell.

The building trade is contributing massively to job creation in the UK at the moment - and the trend looks set to continue, with experts in the field predicting over 180,000 new construction jobs over the next five years. Figures from the Home Builders Federation show that construction work got under way on almost 123,000 homes last year, a rise of 23 percent on 2012.
