National Student Employment Week 2014 Kicks Off Today

Today marks the start of National Student Employment Week, an annual event designed to enhance employability and boost the job skills of students in the United Kingdom.

Organised by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES), National Student Employment Week 2014 runs from today 24th February until 2 March and features a range of events and activities organised by job shops at universities and colleges all over the country. NASES also runs a number of events at the national level which aims to bring students and employers together for mutual benefit.

Events which could be taking place near your college or university for National Student Employment Week include careers fairs, skills workshops, employer Q&A sessions, competitions, theme days and many more activities designed to get students in the UK working.

Speaking about the activities held at the University of Greenwich last year for National Student Employment Week, Naz Alam of the university’s Guidance & Employability Team (GET), said: “The events proved popular throughout the university and we highlighted the areas students were most interested in. For example, we saw a high demand for mock interview skills sessions, and for information about careers in teaching.”

This year, the launch of NASES’ Student Employee of the Year awards coincides with National Student Employment Week. Starting from today, employers will be able to nominate students who work for them on a part time basis for the awards. The actual date of the awards ceremony is yet to be released, but regional judging will take place in the second half of May before national judging in early June.
