Pendle Garden Centre Could Create 300 Retail Jobs In Lancashire

Boundary Mill Stores, the fashion and homeware chain, has announced proposals for a new garden centre in Pendle which could create up to 300 retail jobs in the area.

Hundreds of new full or part time jobs in Lancashire would be generated before April 2015, but only if Pendle Council gives the green light to the plans which Boundary Mill have submitted. The Colne and District Committee will look at the retailer’s proposals for the earmarked new site, close to their existing store in the area, next year.

If the Committee accepts the Boundary Mill plans for over 9,000 square metres of indoor and outdoor garden retail space at the 40,000 square metre site - which have parking space for 500 vehicles - then 300 new positions could be advertised for sales assistants, retail managers, gardeners, buyers and support staff.

Throwing his weight behind the proposals, Andrew Stephenson, Pendle MP, said: “Following the good news of falling unemployment in Pendle, there is the potential here for a significant number of new jobs and I hope that the council looks at this application seriously.”

Leader of Pendle Council, Joe Cooney, was also optimistic about the Boundary Mill plans for the garden centre, describing them as a ‘good step forward for Colne.’ He did point out, however, that creating access to the site was an issue, albeit one which was not insurmountable.

As well as their existing retail outlet in Colne, Lancashire, Boundary Mill Stores also have a presence in Grantham, Sheffield, Newcastle and Walsall. You can find more out about the retail chain and the jobs they offer in our company profile for Boundary Mill Stores.
