Tesco Bank, the joint venture of Tesco and the Royal Bank of Scotland, has announced that it is looking to fill 300 finance jobs in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Graduates in Scotland should apply quickly for any of the vacancies that are advertised across a variety of roles.

The Bank has plans to launch a new current account onto the market next year and needs 240 customer service reps to help them get things off to a flying start from Glasgow and Edinburgh. They will also advertise dozens of Edinburgh head office positions in support roles for the finance sector.

In total, around 300 new full or part time permanent Scottish jobs will be created by Tesco Bank, increasing their current UK headcount of approximately 4,000 staff by over seven per cent.

Speaking about the new finance positions in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Tesco Bank’s chief executive, Benny Higgins, said: “We are making excellent progress towards the launch of our current account next year and the recruitment of these new roles is an important milestone in that process.”

Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond and Secretary of State, Alistair Carmichael both welcomed the news from Tesco Bank, saying the new finance jobs were great news for the country.

“It is a strong endorsement of the skills and expertise that the workforce in Glasgow and Edinburgh possess and their qualities as places to do business,” said Mr Carmichael.
