Premier Inn Hotels On Recruitment Drive For 4,000 Young People

Premier Inn, the hotel chain owned by Whitbread Plc, has announced that it is on a huge recruitment drive to fill hotel jobs for 4,000 young people aged between 16 and 24.

The company will also work together with charity Believe in Young People which works with students and teachers in schools in order to connect them with employers in local areas. Tanja Kuveljic, the charity’s chief executive said she was ‘delighted and privileged’ to be partnering with Premier Inn and Whitbread and hoped to assist thousands of students to make a successful entry into the workplace.

In total, Premier Inn say they will create up to 8,000 new full and part time jobs at their hotels and support facilities over the course of the next five years, but stress that they hope to fill around half of their vacancies with young people who have been out of work for a long time.

In addition to the 4,000 Premier Inn jobs which will open up to students and other young people in the coming years, the hotel chain has also said it will run 2,000 apprenticeships and 4,500 work experience opportunities for a similar age group within the same time frame.

The new Premier Inn jobs for young people will be driven by expansion plans at the chain, which will see an average of three new hotels opening every month.

Speaking at the launch of a new Premier Inn hotel in London, managing director of Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, Patrick Dempsey, said: “We especially want young people to know that hospitality is a career path that is open to them and it’s one they could excel in. The Big Hospitality Conversation is a key pillar of activity for the British Hospitality Association, and as an industry it has already pledged over 32,000 jobs, apprenticeships and work placements and that number could double by 2014.”

Just recently, Premier Inn was picked out by the British Hotel Guest Survey as the UK’s most well known hotel brand, nudging Hilton Hotels into runner’s up place for the first time in its history.

Minister for Employment, Esther McVey, welcomed the Premier Inn announcement, saying: “I was delighted to hear that Premier Inn will be creating 8,000 new jobs over the next five years. Its commitment to offer half of these new jobs to long-term unemployed young people is particularly welcome, and is an example that I hope other businesses will follow.”
