Edinburgh Woollen Mill To Create Over 1,000 New Jobs

Edinburgh Woollen Mill is on an expansion mission which it says will create over 1,000 new full or part time retail jobs in the United Kingdom.

The clothing chain, based out of Langholm, Scotland, has plans to open up a further 100 stores over the next year and a half and will advertise an average of 11 vacancies at each new location.

Not all of the new stores will be Edinburgh Woollen Mill outlets as the wider group also manages the Ponden Home, Proquip, Jane Norman and Peacocks chains. In total, the Group trades from over 700 stores across the retail brands they look after, but now hopes to increase their portfolio of outlets by around 15 per cent in the next 18 months.

Quoted in the Daily Telegraph, Edinburgh Woollen Mill’s commercial director, Steve Simpson, explained the group’s forward looking strategy:

“UK retail remains a tough environment and we are focused on serving customers who are seeking value at a time of reduced discretionary spend but who will not compromise on quality. The group is free of debt so we can leverage a positive balance sheet and focus on a sensible-strategy which continues to deliver sustainable growth for the long term,” said Mr Simpson.
