6,500 Jobs To Be Created In Cardiff & Throughout Wales

Over 6,500 full and part time jobs are expected to be created in Cardiff and other Welsh enterprise zones in the coming years.

Around 3,000 new jobs will open up in the Welsh capital, Cardiff, and a further 3,500 are forecast to be created across other zones.

The seven enterprise zones in Wales are split between Anglesey, Central Cardiff, Deeside, Ebbw Vale, Haven Waterway, Snowdonia and St Athan.

Each geographical enterprise region in Wales uses public investment funds to offer specific business sectors access to the links, infrastructure and facilities they individually need. The Cardiff Central enterprise zone, for example, tailors its investment to attract businesses from the finance and professional services sector, whereas Anglesey concentrates its efforts on providing the best facilities for energy companies.

So far, the seven enterprise zones have added 2,000 jobs to the economy of Wales but ministers expect thousands more positions will be created in the next few years as new businesses are magnetised to the regions.

Professional services firm Deloitte have just announced that they will create 100 new finance jobs in Cardiff over the next three years and many other firms are expected to follow suit in the South Wales city.

Carwyn Jones, First Minister for Wales, welcomed the announcement of the new Deloitte jobs in Wales:

“This latest expansion which is set to create 100 jobs in Cardiff sends out a strong message that Wales is becoming the location of choice for companies operating in the professional and financial services sector that are looking to grow their business. I am hugely encouraged that Cardiff has been selected and confident this latest project will build on the success of their quality and risk operations team in Cardiff.”

With around 300 staff currently working at their two offices in the city, the new Cardiff jobs from Deloitte represent a significant increase in their headcount at the enterprise zone.

Mr Jones added that Wales is the first region in the United Kingdom with an enterprise zone dedicated to finance and professional services companies and said that the city was a hub for new and existing businesses in the sector.
