Nissan To Drive 400 New Sunderland Jobs

Nissan, the Japanese car maker, will create up to 400 new full or part time Sunderland jobs as it increases production at its facility in the North East city.

The automotive company started to make it new Note model in September, and demand for the car means that Nissan will need to work around the clock to make sure the required number of vehicles come off the production line.

Nissan currently employ just over 6,000 people at their Sunderland manufacturing plant, so the new recruits for a third shift on the Note production line will see their staff numbers increase by around 7 per cent.

The Sunderland facility will soon be running operations 24 hours a day in an effort to keep up with demand for their automotives. Kevin Fitzpatrick, vice-president for manufacturing at Nissan in the UK, was quick to praise the staff at the Sunderland base for the years of hard work and strong performance they have delivered.

Councillor Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “Creating more new jobs at the Nissan plant is good news for Sunderland and the wider region, and this is another welcome boost for the wider supply chain too. We already know Nissan to be at the heart of European and world automotive manufacturing, and seeing the majority of the plant moving to round-the-clock production is a significant announcement.”

In other Sunderland jobs news, it has been announced that students in the city are invited to attend a recruitment fair for temporary Christmas jobs. The fair is to be held from 11am to 2pm at Sunderland College’s Bede Campus this Wednesday (16th October 2013). The event should be a great chance for Sunderland students to find out about seasonal work on offer this year from the likes of Sainsbury’s and Cineworld.
