City Link, the Coventry courier firm, is set to create over 700 temporary Christmas jobs in 2013 as it ramps up operations in the run up to the festive holidays.

The company, now owned by Better Capital after being sold by Rentokil Initial for £1 earlier in the year, is looking for seasonal staff to fill 450 driving jobs, 200 warehouse positions and over 60 temporary roles in their operations division.

City Link’s Head of Network Support & Service, Louise Whitehouse, said: “The depots have been actively recruiting temporary drivers, warehouse and operations staff and also talking with agencies to ensure we secure enough staff for peak. Christmas is a busy and stressful time so City Link is doing everything in its power behind the scenes – including contingency planning – to ensure that both consumer and business deliveries arrive safely and on time.”

City Link handles over 75 million parcels and 50 million consignments each year, but the lead up to Christmas is one of their busiest times as people start to send gifts and cards to friends and family in the UK and overseas.

In addition to their main base at Coventry, City Link has a network of over 50 depots around the country and has a fleet of over 2,500 delivery vehicles. The firm estimates that they will need to increase their fleet capacity to around 2,800 to cope with the extra burden that Christmas 2013 will bring. They are also adding a new facility in London before December which will bring their total number of depots in the city to four.
