UK retailer John Lewis is set to build another distribution centre at Magna Park which will create up to 450 new full or part time jobs in Milton Keynes.

The Partnership’s second distribution centre at the park will come at an investment of close to £100 million but will enhance their ability to deliver efficiently to both online and high street shoppers.

Milton Keynes Council’s Head of Corporate Economic Development & Inward Investment, Pam Gosal, said the announcement was exciting news for a city which now boasts over 11,000 businesses.

“This is yet another feather in Milton Keynes’ cap, and we are very pleased to have worked so closely with the John Lewis Partnership. The John Lewis distribution centre will provide jobs for around 450 people when it opens next year, and is a vital boost to our already strong jobs market in Milton Keynes.”

Director of operations at John Lewis, Dino Rocos, said that the Partnership had considered other locations for the new distribution centre but were drawn back to build another base in Milton Keynes because of transport links, a supportive council and a local workforce of ‘strong calibre.’

The new facility at Magna Park will be slightly larger than the existing John Lewis distribution centre and will be linked to it by a 100 metre bridge. The number of John Lewis employees at Magna Park will almost double to provide jobs for over 900 people when the new facility is ready for action in about 18 months time.
