31 Mar 2013

KFC To Drum Up 1,600 New Jobs This Year KFC, the fast food chicken chain, has announced it will create 1,600 new full or part time jobs this year as it opens more than 40 new outlets in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The company is also refurbishing a further 160 KFC restaurants in a move that will see the business and its franchisees investing a total £80 million on their UK and Ireland outlets in 2013.

KFC sees room for around 1,200 restaurants in the future, and the current round of expansion this year will see them move close to 900 stores by the end of 2013. Worldwide, KFC has more than 17,000 restaurants in over 100 countries and has a headcount not far short of 200,000 staff.

The American-owned firm has been trading in the UK since the mid 1960s and now employs over 20 thousand people in full and part time roles at KFC’s all over the nation.

The fast food sector as a whole has been performing well during the recession, with rivals McDonald’s and Domino’s Pizza also posting good financial results.

Showing a very positive outlook for the future of KFC, UK and Ireland managing director Martin Shuker, said: “We are confident we can continue our upward trajectory.”

Employees of KFC can study towards a degree in business management through De Montfort University in Leicester and the firm offers work experience opportunities to disadvantaged young people with the help of the Barnardo’s charity.
