Tata Consultancy Services, the information technology and outsourcing company from Mumbai in India, has announced hopes for around 300 new Liverpool jobs in the IT sector.

The Indian IT firm is ramping up its UK business after receiving the go ahead on a contract with the UK Government’s Home Office. A new delivery centre on Tithebarn Street in the city is expected to create 300 permanent or temporary IT jobs in Liverpool when it opens this summer.

Speaking to JMU Journalism, the excellent student newspaper of John Moores University, Shankar Narayanan of Tata Consultancy Services said his company was committed to increasing its number of job opportunities in the United Kingdom:

“The delivery centre will specifically provide government services to the Home Office Disclosure and Barring Service. There is existing expertise in Liverpool in delivering public sector services to the Home Office and it was a logical choice of location to take advantage of this capability,” said Tata’s Mr Narayanan.

Tata Consultancy Services achieved a turnover in excess of $10 billion last year and now counts around a quarter of a million people as its employees worldwide. In the UK, Tata already employs staff at another North West base in Manchester, as well as at locations in London, Peterborough, Nottingham. Further north in Scotland, Tata Consultancy Services has offices at Rutland Square in Edinburgh.
