University & Council Partnership To Create Over 12,000 Essex Jobs A new partnership between local councils and Anglia Ruskin University could create over 12,000 full or part time jobs in Essex.

Chelmsford City Council, Harlow District Council and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council have teamed up with the MedTech Campus of the university to generate thousands of new jobs in the medical technology sector.

The medical technology sector is worth £170 billion per year and the partnership hopes that together they can increase the UK’s slice of sector by over £1 billion by becoming one of the biggest health spaces in the world.

Rob Tinlin, Chief Executive of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council said that the region already had strong links in the medical sector with such names Olympus Keymed having a base there. The new partnership with Anglia Ruskin University would exploit existing potential and help bring more opportunities to the area said Mr Tinlin.

Professor Michael Thorne, the Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, said: “Our vision for the Anglia Ruskin MedTech Campus is as a globally leading centre for medical innovation, building on our world-leading research in subjects allied to medicine and the solid partnerships we have built up over the years with the healthcare sector and with industry.”
