A new five floor cinema complex in Gateshead will create dozens of full or part time jobs in Tyne & Wear next year.

Part of the Vue chain of cinemas, the new venue will host nine screens and be located at the Trinity Square development. Plans which were passed by Gateshead Council this week also include a Tesco Extra, a health centre, student accommodation, office space and retail units at the development.

The Vue cinema, which will cost close to £5 million and take up over 2 thousand square metres of floor space, could be open by the end of next summer. Once complete, the cinema will create around 60 jobs in Tyne & Wear.

Mick Henry, Leader of Gateshead Council, said: “This really is a big and exciting step forwards in the revival of central Gateshead. It's been decades since we've had a cinema right in the town centre and I know lots of local people will be thrilled. I know it's been a long road to get to the regeneration of the town centre, but I hope local people are now seeing that patience is really paying off.”
