Clinton Cards in administration after 44 years

08 May 2012

Clinton Cards in administration after 44 years It looks like one of the favourite high street card retailers in the UK has fallen foul of the ongoing struggle high street chains face with increasing competition from both supermarkets and online retailers.

Currently Clinton Cards run around 750 stores and this unfortunate situation will put more than 8000 full time and part time jobs at risk. With the company unable to pay back a £35m loan, there seemed few other options than to put the company and its off shoots into administration.

Whilst a potential buyer is found for the ailing company, staff will remain employed and business will continue but it has warned that the second half of the financial year will be below initial projections having made a pre-tax loss of £3.7 million in the 6 month period ending 29th January 2012.

Clinton Cards was founded back in 1968 in Epping, Essex by Don Lewin. 20 years on the company floated on the stock market with an impressive 77 stores across the country and this grew by almost a further 700 over the last 24 years to its size today.

E4S has a range of part time and full time vacancies available, including retail jobs, if you happen to have been affected by this news.
