New Development Could Create Over 1,000 Preston Jobs

23 Apr 2012

New Development Could Create Over 1,000 Preston Jobs A proposed shopping centre development in Lancashire could create over 1,000 full or part time Preston jobs according to the Brookhouse Group developers.

Earmarked for a site at Horrockses Quarter in the Avenham area of Preston, 300 jobs could open up in the construction phase and a further 860 jobs would be created once the development is up and running.

Both Tesco and Asda are thought to be looking for new bases in the area and the site could be open for business before the Christmas silly season next year.

In addition to supermarket space, there would be room for shops and cafes at the new site and plans include provision for public squares at the Horrockses Quarter site.

Developer Brookhouse said of the plans and the potential full and part time jobs it could create in Preston: “The proposed development is likely to create in the order of 860 jobs directly with further employment created indirectly through services used by occupiers of the development. A further 300 jobs are likely to be created during the construction phase.”

They added that the completed development would also add spin-off benefits to other businesses in the area.
